Anna Amalia Thronsaal des Schlosses Gelber Saal mit Galerie
Anna Amalia
The museum housed in Renaissance palace from the 16th and 17th century helps the visitor to get an overview of prehistory and early history and Early Medieval settlement of this region. It is shown the development of the castle hill from the royal palace of Heinrich I. to an immediate endowment for ladies of rank. Furthermore important aspects to the history of the town are examined. One of the excellent objects is the hoard from the Bronze Age (on the Lehof) and the so-called Goldscheibenfiebel from Groß-Orden.

The “Raubgrafenkasten”, a wooden prison, is very impressive. Many legends are centred around the capturing of Count Albrecht II. von Regenstein. The exhibition rooms give an insight into the noble cultivated living of the 17th and 18th century. In the Ottonic vault, the oldest Ottonic secular building, the visitor gets information about Quedlinbur’s history of the palace and its Ottonic rulers. In another part of the exhibition with the title “History and propaganda” the question is asked how Quedlinburg’s medieval history was taken in and abused by the National Socialists.
