Dommuseum Ottonianum Magdeburg

Magdeburg

The museumscape of Magdeburg has been enriched with the new, state-of-the-art building of the Dommuseum Ottonianum. The museum's name honours one of the most important historical personalities of Saxony-Anhalt and Magdeburg, namely the Holy Roman Emperor Otto the Great, and his importance to German and European history.
Most of the thematic areas of the museum relate to him: the Ottonian Age, Emperor Otto and Queen Edith, and the Magdeburg Cathedral (dedicated to St. Mauritius and St. Catherine) as the centre of the medieval Archbishopric of Magdeburg. The museum content is vividly and clearly conveyed thanks to the spectacular archaeological finds in and around the Magdeburg Cathedral, as well as the interactive media stations.
