The anatomical collections of Halle University belong to the most extensive ones of its kind in Europe. They have invaluable preparations. The anatomist from Halle Philipp Friedrich Theodor Meckel (1755-1803) extended his father’s collection (Johann Frierich Meckel d.Ä. (1724-1774). His son Johann Friedrich Meckel d.J. (1781-1833) who added about two third to the collection created the scientific theory of abnormalities. The Meckels’ collections today consist of a human-anatomical and a comparative-anatomical range. There are more than 7000 preparations in these collections.
