Blick in den Kreuzhof
Today the former Cistercian Cloister is a music institute for performing practice and it is the seat of the Music Academy of Saxony- Anhalt. In the exhibition of musical instruments there are valuable exhibits of the 18th to the 20th century, among an important collection of violins from the Vogtland region, oboes, bassoons and clarinets from the18th and 19th century. Various exhibited pianos from the19th century can tonally be experienced.
There are not only fishponds and various working quarters but also herb and vegetable gardens created after historical sources with many different plants which belonged to medical cabinets and into every kitchen in the Middle Ages. In the cloister and in the rooms of enclosure like refectory, chapter hall and so-called abbot’s chapel the visitor is welcomed by the silence of a cloister and simple aesthetics of the Cistercians’ architecture.
