Know, engaged and popular in her hometown Halberstadt, she was the last member of the manufacturer and trader family Schraube. Margarete, born 1903, studied geography, history and sport, worked as a teacher. She wasn’t married and didn’t have children. Halberstadt owes Margarete Schraube a complete middle-class residence of a manufacturer family in the 19th century. It can be seen in all details. The show-piece is a drawing-room from the period of promoterism that is in no way inferior to the princely banqueting hall the palace of Wernigerode near by. Living room, bedroom and kitchen authentically show the earlier way of life.
In the attic there are small exhibitions presenting the history of the telephone, radio and television. A collection of watches and Margarete’s needlework complement the facilities of the museum.
