In 1983 a permanent exhibition of the history of the town of Staßfurt and of the common salt production until 1850 was opened. (Later a strong potassium industry developed. In Staßfurt there was the first shaft all over the world.)
An extension of the exhibition on the topic "potassium mine" was realised in 1992. You can learn fundamental things about mining; you can see implements which had been used until the mine was closed down in 1972 and you can admire wonderful salt minerals.
Further equipment for salt mining can be seen on the open-air grounds.
Since 1994 visitors can enjoy a restored department focusing on the history of the town.
