Dauerausstellung Kornmahlen Dauerausstellung Kinder legen ein Skelett frei

Reopened in 2003, the redesigned permanent exhibition presents an overview of the settlement history of the Köthen region, from the oldest bifacial hand-axe (250,000 years old) from Werdershausen and across all the subsequent cultures up until the first known documentary mention of the town of Köthen in 1115.
In 2012 the permanent exhibition was expanded with the thematically related presentation for children and young people, "Adventure Archaeology". The presentation documents the arduous but nevertheless exciting work that archaeologists must do to uncover new finds and knowledge. Aside from just looking over the archaeologist's shoulder, the tools of the trade can also be taken in hand. The working methods of excavating are vividly illustrated, and the other sciences that assist an archaeologist's work are also explained. Those who would like to can practice the use of dendrochronology for dating, or take part in an excavation. There is much that one can "grasp" – some things move, other things have to be moved.
