Palace Luisium

Dessau-Roßlau

Schloss Luisium
The "Wörlitz Palace" which was built between 1774 and 1778 is an outstanding testimony to the early classical architecture in Germany and one of the most beautiful creations of the master builder Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. The cottage as well as the garden (14 hectare) is devoted to Princess Luise von Anhalt-Dessau. After extensive restoration the rooms of the castle with essential parts of the original furnishings can be visited again. Harmonizing with the resident the interior decoration reflects the female virtues and the enthusiasm about classical antiquity of the epoch. On the mezzanine an exhibition reveals the course and the problems that occurred during the restoration.
