The local heritage museum is housed in the eight rooms of the Komturhaus ("Commander’s House") of the Teutonic Knights, and features displays on local archeological finds, local history as of 850 A.D., and rural home décor and domestic culture from 1889 to 1920 (including the kitchen, living room, bedroom and spinning room with 30 old irons).
Also to be seen is a cast iron stove from the Ilsenburg foundry as well as a complete smokehouse with all the relevant home butchering equipment, including the canning and sealing machine. The exhibition is supplemented by an old German baking oven and an electric wood gangsaw found on the outside grounds.
