The Museum Petersberg is housed in a four-sided farmyard from 1752 located in the Petersberg recreational area approx. 15 kilometres north of Halle. The main and auxiliary buildings formerly served as a Royal Prussian forester's lodgings. Here, the visitor can learn a lot about the history of the former Augustinian monastery on the Petersberg as well as about Conrad of Wettin (1098 – 1157), the progenitor of the Saxon royal dynasty. Further exhibitions offer information on the local cultural and social history as well as the rural arts and crafts of the former Saale district from the 18th to early 20th century. A historic bakery with an old German oven is put into operation for visitors a few days a year. Over the course of the year, the museum offers visitors a broad number of special exhibitions and other events. Following the museum visit, a stroll to the Collegiate Church of St. Peter is recommended.
