In the heart of the regional capital of Magdeburg, not far from the Elbe River, is the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen ("Convent of Our Lady Art Museum"), the most important venue for contemporary art and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Saxony-Anhalt. The location offers a wonderfully ideal combination of sculptures from all eras, contemporary art, and Roman architecture from the 12th century. And now, following the museum's extensive renovation, the museum also has a state-of-the-art infrastructure for high-profile exhibitions of contemporary art. Works from the museum's collection are displayed in the three Romanesque vaulted chambers of the north wing, while international contemporary art is found in the upper barrel vault. The broad spectrum of work presented enables the cross-comparison and comprehension of important artistic trends and concepts. Sculptures of classical antiquity, medieval wooden sculptures and sculptural work of the 19th and early-20th century are exhibited in the middle and lower vaults. The sculpture park surrounding the museum is also part of the permanent collection; created in 1989, it consists of over 60 works by German and international artists. Since February 2012 the west wing has been the site of "Trans.Reflex", an art piece with 16 mirror panels that playfully interconnects the museum with its surrounding environment.
