Since 1905 the Municipal Museum can be found in “Spiegelsche Kurie” at the so-called Domplatz. Today this museum deals with the town’s history and the history of the first bishopric of Central Germany, founded in 804.
Exhibitions in 20 rooms show excellent prehistoric and early historic findings, the history of the bishopric, the development of the so-called Domburg and buildings of Halberstadt’s Cathedral, the bishops’ role up to the time when Halberstadt was capital of the department in the Kingdom of Westphalia and the Industrialisation in the 19th century.
A big model of Halberstadt at about 1780, a workshop of a glover, pewter figures’ diorama to the German-French-War in 1870 and a chemist’s shop equipment from the 18th century are part of the permanent exhibition.
